About S K Industries
S K Industries (SKI) has been manufacturing hand pumps in Patna, Bihar since 1961. In 1975, SKI became one of the first companies in India to be approved by UNICEF for the Deep Well India Mark II hand pump — approval we still hold today.
Today we manufacture over 30 different types of hand pumps and treadle pumps, including the India Mark 2, Mark 3, Afridev, Tara, Extra Deepwell and Shallow Well models, across multiple factories in India, including our main works in Danapur, Patna.
Certified quality
SKI is ISO-certified and BIS-certified, manufacturing to the Bureau of Indian Standards’ IS 15500 specification for the India Mark II hand pump — the standard widely used in UNICEF and government-backed water programmes.
Where we export
We export to more than 50 countries, supplying community water and rural development projects across most of Africa, and hand-pump-reliant markets in Asia including Afghanistan, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand. We also manufacture pump variants adapted for specific markets, such as a Ghana-modified India Mark 2 hand pump.
As a leading exporter of deep well hand pumps, we keep ready stock of hundreds of India Mark and Afridev pumps, ready to ship at a few days’ notice.
Our history and growth
S K Industries has been at the forefront of hand pump technology since its founding in 1961. SKI has several times been the first manufacturer to be awarded the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) mark for various products. Over the years the range has grown well beyond hand pumps, with treadle pumps, castings, spares and tools among the additions.
Our product range
Our products include the India Mark II, India Mark III and VLOM 50 deep well hand pumps, the Tara direct action hand pump, the Extra Deepwell hand pump, the Afridev hand pump, the Singrur shallow well hand pump, the Metal Treadle Pump and the Malawi Treadle Pump. We also supply hand pump spares and the tools for their installation and maintenance, as well as GI and uPVC riser pipes and castings.

Water is the most valuable natural resource in the world, and the quality of a hand pump can be the difference between life and death for the people who rely on it. SKI has a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility with an in-house foundry and a hot dip galvanizing plant. Everyone in our organisation understands that even if one pump in a thousand is defective, it is a total loss to the family or community using it to sustain life. We use the best raw materials and the best processes to make the best pumps at competitive prices, which is what we mean by more value for money.
Because the foundry and galvanizing plant are our own, we control quality from raw casting to finished pump, and the same hot dip galvanizing capacity is also offered to other manufacturers as a service.

Alongside selling pumps in India, we export to all parts of the world. We work with organisations such as UNICEF, SKAT, BIS and SGS, with government agencies and departments, with NGOs such as Lifewater, CARE and Development Alternatives, and with other institutional and private agencies. SKI has also won international awards, including Best Treadle Pump Manufacturer in India, and other awards related to hand pumps.
