Which India Mark 2 spare parts wear out first?
Most India Mark 2 repairs happen down the borehole, in the cylinder. The rubber parts wear first: the two nitrile buckets (cup washers) on the plunger, the rubber seatings of the upper valve and the check valve, and the sealing rings at the two ends of the cylinder. When these wear, the pump needs more strokes to deliver water, or it loses its prime and the water drains back between uses.
At the pump head, the handle axle bearings and the chain wear with use. A small stock of buckets, rubber seatings, sealing rings, bearings and a chain covers most repairs. For a step-by-step guide to replacing the cylinder parts, see How to repair India Mark 2 downhole components.
India Mark 2 cylinder spare parts
The India Mark 2 cylinder is a cast iron body with a brass liner, 63.5 mm in bore, with a brass plunger and a check valve (foot valve) at the bottom. The India Mark 2 spare parts in the picture above are numbered as in this table.
| No. | Part | Where it is used |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Cylinder body (cast iron with brass liner) | Barrel of the cylinder; the plunger works inside the brass liner |
| 2 | Reducer caps | Top and bottom ends of the cylinder |
| 3 | Cylinder sealing rings (nitrile) | Seal the reducer caps to the cylinder body |
| 4 | Nitrile buckets (cup washers) | Two on the plunger; seal the plunger in the liner |
| 5 | Plunger assembly | Complete plunger with buckets, follower and upper valve |
| 6 | Plunger body (brass) | Holds the upper valve; connects to the plunger rod |
| 7 | Follower (brass) | Supports the buckets on the plunger |
| 8 | Upper valve (brass) | Valve inside the plunger |
| 9 | Check valve (brass) | Foot valve at the bottom of the cylinder |
| 10 | Check valve seat (brass) | Seat for the check valve at the cylinder base |

India Mark 2 spare parts for corrosive water
The standard India Mark 2, with galvanized rods and riser pipes and a cast iron cylinder, is not meant for aggressive water (pH below 6.5). In such water the galvanized parts rust, and rust gets into the drinking water. For these boreholes we supply corrosion-resistant parts:
- SS 304 cylinder assembly, stainless steel connecting rods and stainless steel riser pipes
- PVC riser pipes with square threads
- PVC riser pipes with stainless steel couplings
How to order India Mark 2 hand pump parts
Send us the part names from the tables above (or the part numbers from the picture), with the quantity of each, the type of riser pipe and connecting rods you use, and your destination country. We will send you a quote. We pack the parts for export, so they reach the end users undamaged: see how we pack hand pumps.

India Mark 2 spare parts questions
Do India Mark 2 parts fit any India Mark 2 pump?
The India Mark 2 is made to Indian Standards and the India Mark Handpump Specification (Rev. 2-2007), so parts made to the specification are interchangeable between makers. If you are unsure, send us the part or its dimensions and we will confirm.
Which India Mark 2 spare parts should I keep in stock?
Nitrile buckets, rubber seatings (large and small), cylinder sealing rings, handle bearings and a chain. These are the parts that wear most.
Do the Extra Deepwell India Mark 2 parts differ?
Most cylinder and pump head parts are common. Tell us if your pumps are Extra Deepwell and we will quote the right parts. See our Extra Deepwell India Mark 2 page.
How can I tell genuine SKI parts?
Genuine SKI parts carry a 3D hologram sticker.
